Sexual Health and Well Person Unit

Poor sexual health can lead to unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections and in some cases death. It is essential that individuals are educated so they can make informed choices in sexual relationships and have appropriate access to services when needed.

Furthermore, sexual health contributes to health inequalities – there is a clear link between social deprivation and poor sexual health. Women, gay men, young persons and persons from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups are disproportionately affected by poor sexual health (Toni Williams, 2010).

The Well Person Unit, located in the Primary Care Centre, offers a range of sexual and reproductive health services including :

  • Full advice of the broadest range of contraceptives.
  • Sexual health screening, testing and treatment.
  • PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis) for HIV
after sexual exposure, and PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) if clinically appropriate and after full
    assessment.
