21 Bed/Cot Unit.

Rainbow ward is a 21 bedded Children’s unit caring for children with bothmedical and surgical needs. It is staffed by paediatric consultant’s and nurses and works closely with other specialities and allied health professionals both in the hospital and community, as well as specialist tertiary centres. Rainbow ward has an outpatient and review service providing on-going treatment and support from the paediatricians and nursing team.

We provide a welcoming safe environment for children and their families that is family centered.

Unit layout & bed distribution:

The ward is sub-divided as follows:

a) X2 6 bed multi bays.
b) X5 Isolation/single rooms.
c) X2 HD rooms with observation ports.
d) X2 adolescent rooms with en suite facilities.

Admission Criteria:

All specialities under 16 years of age.
Exceptions are made for special needs (up to 18 year) after consultation
with the Ward Manager and Consultant Paediatrician responsible.

Any other speciality, which does not meet the criteria set above, must be
cleared first by the Bed Manager (or designated deputy).

Visiting Times

Daily: 11:00 to 19:30
Only 2 visitors per patient.
Children under 12 years of age are not allowed.
Visiting is at the discretion of the Ward Manager on duty.
