Job Summary
The Gibraltar Health Authority invites applications from suitably qualified Clinical Fellows who, by virtue of their citizenship, are entitled to take up employment and who are, or will be upon employment, resident in Gibraltar.
Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It is easily accessible from London, Bristol, and Manchester, with flight times of just over 2 hours.
The post is based at St. Bernard’s Hospital, a modern facility situated by the waterfront, offering stunning views of the Straits of Gibraltar and Northern Africa.
Language: English is the official language, with Spanish widely spoken.
The Gibraltar Health Service is organized and modelled on UK NHS and follows traditions of British medical practice. Applicants must be registered with the Gibraltar Medical Registration Board or UK General Medical Council with a license to practice. There is a GMC exemption for candidates from Australia & New Zealand who are registered with their home equivalents. Non-native English speakers must have a good command of English.
Applications are invited for the above-mentioned post, for commencement in August 2026. This appointment will be for a period of 1 year initially, renewable by mutual agreement.
Applicants must have completed Foundation Year Training (or equivalent) and further experience in acute general medicine and related medical subspecialties, including coronary care and award or evidence of working towards MRCP would be an advantage.
The on-call commitment is a 1 in 7 residents, shift-based Rota for acute general adult medicine supported by six Consultant Physicians with General Medicine responsibilities and resident intensivists. Candidates are expected to be competent in dealing with acute medical emergencies when on-call. There is a study leave budget available for approved courses.
Salary for the post is dependent on years of reckonable service as a Senior House Officer or equivalent and includes an out of hours supplement. The applicable salary scale is as follows: £68,742, £73,068, £77,493, £81,732, £85,238, £89,532 & £92,914.
Travel and Accommodation Information
- Airfare: Full reimbursement for return economy flights from the UK.
- Accommodation Allowance: A rental allowance is available exclusively to individuals on a fixed-term contract. This is subject to submission of a valid rental agreement and a Gibraltar Civilian Registration card.
Visa Requirements for Non-EU Nationals
- Please note that a Schengen Visa is required to transit through Europe. This must be obtained from your country of residence prior to travel. Schengen Visas cannot be issued by Gibraltar authorities.
