Job Summary
The Gibraltar Health Authority invites applications from suitably qualified Clinical Fellows who, by virtue of their citizenship, are entitled to take up employment and who are, or will be upon employment, resident in Gibraltar.
Applications are invited from qualified doctors with a minimum of two years of anaesthesia training and some experience in intensive care medicine. The successful candidate will be first on call, supported by a Consultant second on call from home.
UK-trained applicants should have completed CT2 Anaesthetics or CT3 ACCS-Anaesthesia. While Primary FRCA is not required, the role is well-suited to:
- Senior registrars seeking an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE), Out of Programme Pause (OOPP), or Out of Programme Training (OOPT)
- Post-CCT anaesthetists looking for a rewarding year before starting their first consultant post
Many previous team members have found this position to be professionally enriching and personally enjoyable.
Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It is easily accessible from London, Bristol, and Manchester, with flight times of just over 2 hours.
The post is based at St. Bernard’s Hospital, a modern facility situated by the waterfront, offering stunning views of the Straits of Gibraltar and Northern Africa.
Language: English is the official language, with Spanish widely spoken.
The Gibraltar Health Service is organized and modelled on UK NHS and follows traditions of British medical practice. Applicants must be registered with the Gibraltar Medical Registration Board or UK General Medical Council with a license to practice. There is a GMC exemption for candidates from Australia & New Zealand who are registered with their home equivalents. Non-native English speakers must have a good command of English.
This is not a recognised training post but provides excellent opportunity for research and training. Most of the recent fellows have obtained training posts after their placement in Gibraltar.
The department has been approved for CT3 equivalence and out of programme training (OOPT) by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and General Medical Council. St Bernard’s Hospital forms part of the Gibraltar School of Anaesthesia on the RCoA Lifelong Learning platform and, at present, is collaborating with the East of England Deanery.
The job and rota are EWTD compliant comprising less than 48 hours on average per week including non-clinical sessions to help with continuing professional development.
