Job Summary

The Gibraltar Health Authority invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician. Applicants must, by virtue of their citizenship or residence status, be entitled to take up employment in Gibraltar and who are, or on employment will be resident in Gibraltar.

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It is easily accessible from London, Bristol, and Manchester, with flight times of just over 2 hours.

The post is based at St. Bernard’s Hospital, a modern facility situated by the waterfront, offering stunning views of the Straits of Gibraltar and Northern Africa.

Language: English is the official language, with Spanish widely spoken.

Visa Requirements for Non-EU Nationals

  • Please note that a Schengen Visa is required to transit through Europe. This must be obtained from your country of residence prior to travel. Schengen Visas cannot be issued by Gibraltar authorities.

The Gibraltar Health Authority is organised and modelled on UK NHS and follows traditions of British medical practice. Applicants must hold full registration with the UK General Medical Council, with a license to practice. They should hold Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists MRCOG (or equivalent) and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in obstetrics and gynaecology, including complex obstetrics care, open and robotic gynaecological surgical skills, as well as experience in colposcopy. An interest in teaching and research is desirable.

The successful candidate will be working as part of the team of four Consultants.  There are five theatres including a dedicated Day Case Unit and offer DGH level ENT, Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Surgery, General Surgery (including colorectal and bariatric), Urology, Orthopaedics & Trauma, Gynae & Obs, Ophthalmics and Chronic Pain giving the successful applicant a varied clinical workload. On call duties are currently 1 in 4 off site, whereby Consultants are called for advice, review of admissions and urgent assessments of patients in the Emergency Department.

This post is on indefinite terms, with a 12-month probationary period and carries the following salary scale, based on experience: £113,919, £115,319, £116,720, £118,118, £119,518, £125,116, £132,841 & £140,563. The post also benefits from an additional 12% on-call allowance, 18% cross cover allowance.
