Applications are invited from qualified doctors, who have completed at least 2 years of post-graduate medical training (ideally CT2-ST3), who by virtue of their citizenship are entitled to take up employment and who are, or on employment will be, resident in Gibraltar, to join our Orthopaedic Surgery team as a Clinical Fellow.

 

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, easily reached in just over 2 hours (flying time) from London, Bristol or Manchester airports. The post is based at the St. Bernard’s Hospital located by the waterfront, overlooking the straits of Gibraltar & Northern Africa. The area is perfect for those wishing to explore Southern Spain, Portugal and North Africa. English is the official main language with Spanish widely spoken.

 

The Gibraltar Health Service is organized and modelled on UK NHS and follows traditions of British medical practice. Applicants must be registered with the Gibraltar Medical Board Registry or UK General Medical Council with a license to practice. There is a GMC exemption for candidates from Australia & New Zealand who are registered with their home equivalents. Non-native English speakers must have a good command of English.

 

This is not a recognized training post but provides excellent opportunity for research and training. Most of the recent fellows have obtained training posts after their placement in Gibraltar.

 

The Surgical Clinical Fellow will work closely with the Surgical Consultants. This will provide exposure to a wide variety of general surgery conditions and their treatment, allowing active participation in the operating theatre, endoscopy sessions and clinics. Clinical Fellows form part of a 1 in 7 residents on call Rota, in cross cover with Orthopaedics and Trauma. Occasional cross cover ENT, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics with direct consultant support might be needed and experience in any of the specialties would be advantageous.

Preferred start dates of May/June 2024, (earlier dates can be considered)

 

The total value of salary package is up to £88,248. This is dependent on years of reckonable service as a Senior House Officer or equivalent and inclusive of an out of hours’ supplement.

 

Return economy class airfares from the UK are payable in full. A rented accommodation allowance is payable solely whilst on a fixed term contract and upon submission of an official rental agreement and a Gibraltar Civilian Registration card.

 

Non-EU nationals should note that a Schengen Visa is required in order to be able to transit through Europe. This is obtained from the applicant’s place of residence. Please note that Schengen Visas cannot be obtained through Gibraltar.
